Newcastle United have ended their 56-year wait for a trophy, beating Liverpool 2-1 at Wembley in the Carabao Cup final.
Dan Burn and Alexander Isak got the goals in a brilliant performance from Eddie Howe’s men, who held on for victory despite Federico Chiesa’s late strike.
Burn’s header, on the stroke of half-time, was superb and an opener that was richly deserved after a first half dominated by Newcastle. That lead was soon doubled after the break, Isak sweeping past Caoimhin Kelleher from Jacob Murphy’s knock-down.
